WARREN - Union retirees from Delphi Packard Electric still need to attend their scheduled meeting about health care because a judge's approval does not restore health care, a union leader said Friday.
''It's imperative that our retirees realize that, although this court approval makes it official that (General Motors Corp.) will 'top-up' the pensions it does not restore their health care benefits,'' said Karen Krolopp, president of International Union of Electrical Workers-Communications Workers of America Local 717.
Krolopp said Medicare recipients living in Ohio still need to attend their meeting at the union hall when contacted by MBSenior Solutions.
Medicare recipients not living in Ohio need to contact Extend Health for help in choosing supplemental insurance.
Medicare recipients will get documents telling them that GM is canceling their secondary insurance effective Jan. 1, Krolopp added.
Retirees not getting Medicare will get documents detailing the catastrophic health care plan being made available effective the same date, she said.
