The United Auto Workers Ford National Council met today in downtown Detroit with the leaders of its local units and said it is scheduled to be in discussions with Ford Motor Co. on Aug. 25, according to two union officials.
ìIt was an informational meeting,î said Frank Fabrizio, president of the parts depot unit of UAW Local 600.
Fordís UAW workers ratified modifications to their labor agreement in March.
Nick Kottalis, chairman of the Dearborn Truck unit of UAW Local 600, said the purpose of Thursdayís meeting was, ìto get feedback from all of us on how itís going and if Ford is keeping their end of the agreement.î
The Aug. 25 discussions will involve UAW Vice President Bob King and his bargaining committee, Kottalis said.
Unclear is whether or not the Aug. 25 discussions will include additional changes to the labor agreement between the UAW and Ford.
Kottalis said he would oppose any additional modifications.
Ford has been saying since May it is seeking additional changes to the labor contract comparable to more extensive agreements reached between the UAW, Chrysler Group LLC and General Motors Co., such as a no-strike clause.
ìWe are talking to them,î said Ford spokesman Mark Truby. ìWe want to be competitive.î
