I didn't realize that there was a special section for the union local for which I belong . I am a member of 653 in the Powertrain Engineering Center. Used to be a member of Buick Local 599 for my first 27 years of service. I guess that makes me an immigrant. LOL

I guess GM is going ahead with their plans to do away with all the so called non-core jobs. This will include fork lift drivers, dock attendants, crib attendants and so on. We are being told that in October our plant will be reducing manpower by 50%. GM hopes to get rid of everyone no later that march 2010. They then want to idle the plant until the steel gets allocated to build the new small car. Their hopes are to leave everyone on the street long enough to jack with them in to retirement so they can hire the $14.00 an hour people. What a slap in the face to the people that have worked so very hard to keep our plant going and not to mention the pride they have in doing their jobs and the pride they have had from being a part of the largest automobile company in the world. When the get rid of us I wonder who they think is going to be able to buy their cars. Hell, we will be using any extra money we have to pay medical bills and trying to keep up with inflation. I really feel for those employees that don't have 30 years in who won't get a decent retirement because they were forced out.
GM only plans to have 127 workers in the Pontiac plant when the new car starts running. Lot of bad vibes here. Looks like GM is setting up for another failure. Wonder if they just closed our plant that people would get a greater payoff in a plant closing. Where is our union???
