Here is a letter I recieved from a real estate agent driving a toyota in our area:
Before you start bashing me or my car, let me say this - I am a true American, my husband is a Viet Nam Vet and a 30 year Air Force retiree - he fought for this country so YOU and every other American could live FREE - and to my knowledge, this is still a free country that our sons, daughters, husbands, wives, and grandchildren are fighting for and dying for daily, therefore; I have the right to buy what ever car I wish. If any of the Big 3 could make a car I like as well as mine, I would buy it, but they haven't.
I would like to know how you can complain about what car someone else drives just because you work at the BIG 3 when the facts are that MANY
- MANY of the parts for the so called "American Made" cars are not made
in America. They are made in several other countries! IN FACT, many
of the American Made cars aren't made in America at all, there are several plants in other countries. Just because the CEO's of the Big 3 chose to outsource American jobs doesn't make it the fault of people who don't buy from the Big 3.
It's not that I don't sympathize with the plight of the Big 3 employees, I do. It's a shame that the big wigs couldn't manage the money right and make good decisions. They were just looking out for themselves and the little guy suffers. My husband and my son-in-law were both employed by the Big 3, and they were both shafted - and my good friend HAD a good pension from her husband working hard for the Big 3 for more than 40 years, and now that she is a widow with health issues, her dollars and insurance have been cut - so I know what I am talking about. Tell me that's fair?? You work for years and years and give your life to a
company just to have it cut when you retire.
The fact that the people who are running the Big 3 have chosen to make poor decisions does NOT make this awful mess that everyone is in the problem of those of us who choose not to purchase something made by the Big 3. I have sympathy for everyone that is affected by this mess, but for you to tell me or anyone else who chooses to drive something not made by the Big 3 that it is our fault is ridiculous. Foreign cars have been on the roads in the USA for many years and it wasn't a problem when this country was doing well and everyone was prospering.
You talk like you are so well informed, interviewing realtors to see what they drive - saying you won't do business with an entire Real Estate Company because one person happens to drive a vehicle you don't agree with - how does that work??? It's possible that everyone else in that company drives a Ford!! Is that fair?? Do you also interview the tellers at your bank to see what they drive and if one teller drives a foreign car do you boycott the bank?? Do you interview the employees at
the grocery store to see what they drive?? I'll even go further than
that - take a look at every item in your home - who is it made by???
Who built the appliances in your home, your B-B-Q grill, your kids toys??
Who built your TV, your stereo, your mattress, made your blankets or your razors??? Oh, and don't forget to ask, what brand/make vehicle
delivered these items to the store??? If you say any one of the items
in your home are made in a foreign country, doesn't that make you a
hypocrite??
So before you start pointing fingers and throwing stones you must realize that other people may be saying the same thing about you when you buy items made outside the USA. I don't agree with outsourcing our jobs, no matter what they are, automotive, furniture, toys, whatever, I also don't agree that someone can tell me what to buy or what kind of car to drive. Additionally, just a point, Toyota has SEVERAL plants in the US that employees US workers.
I don't harass you because of your choices and I would appreciate it if you and your friends would stop harassing me. I don't understand why you feel you have the RIGHT to tell me what I should and shouldn't buy. Like I said before, this is a FREE country and my husband gave 30 years of his life and fought to help keep it that way. I understand you are striking out at the first thing you can put your finger on, but it's not my fault that the heads of the Big 3 made such bad choices and chose to squander your futures. They have no worries because THEY are millionaires! But that doesn't make it my fault.
I am asking you to remove the poster you put up and stop harassing me. If you choose NOT to remove the poster you have posted so that I am not continually harassed, I will be forced to take further action that I really would rather not take. I am not harassing you or hurting anyone, I'm just minding my own business and I would appreciate you leaving me alone. I am sympathetic with your position, but direct your anger towards the right people....the heads of the Big 3, not at me.
